Without approval of DG shipping no marine institute is allowed to operate.To get DG approval the institute has to be in compliance with each and every requirement laid down by the DGS
Q 3. What is the difference Nautical Studies and Marine Engineering?+
Nautical Studies deals with navigation, cargo operations, Safety maintenance of ship and all legal and commercial matters pertaining to shipping business.Marine Engineering deals with operation and maintenance of ship machinery and engines in a safe & efficient way which needs knowledge & skills of a very high order.

Both courses lead to rewarding careers in shipping industry. It is individual choice to work on the deck or engine side.

If you are an inclined towards technical and inquisitive about machines then you should opt for Marine engineering as they work more on machines.Whereas on the deck side the job involves more of navigation and cargo handling.

Q 7. What will be the expense of this training and what all will be included?+

Q 8. What is Merchant Navy and how is it different from Indian Navy?+
Merchant Navy, as the name suggests, is the term for commercial transportation of cargo and passengers through sea routes using ships.In other words, it can also be said that merchant marine activities are not indigenous or native to any one country but are spread across nations, worldwide.
Defence Navy, on the other hand, refers to nations’ maritime military wing. Naval Ships are those which are used at times of international crises to protect the water boundaries of a nation.

Merchant Navy is a global industry which provides some of the best career opportunities on different types of ships (and on land as well). Unlike any other field, Merchant Navy offers jobs that not only require specialized knowledge and training but also require a great amount of mental and physical strength.Merchant navy jobs mainly involve working on a variety of ships as officers, engineers, or ratings. These are the main three departments on almost all types of ships and they work in coordination to ensure a smooth running of ship and its operations.

Q 10. What is merchant navy uniform like? Do they have to wear the uniform all the time?+
Merchant navy officers mainly wear a white shirt and black trousers, along with epaulettes according to the rank on the ship. The uniform is accompanied with black formal shoes and a pullover or sweatshirt during cold climate condition. The cap (P-cap) is a black hood with a white top having an anchor symbol.Candidates will be in uniform when attending the college.
However, while doing maintenance/practicals, the candidates will usually wears a boiler suit along with personal protective equipment (PPE).
Needless to say, the merchant navy uniform is of great importance and pride and maritime professionals are required to keep the uniform up-to-date and clean at all times.

Q 12. What Is Lifestyle In Merchant Navy Like?+
Considering the nature of work, maritime professional have a lifestyle which is quite different from those working ashore.This is not the usual 9-to-5 kind of job. As a maritime professional, you would be usually working in 4-hours shifts, twice a day, in addition to extra hours.
Maritime professionals usually have a contract with a shipping company. The contract period can last from 4 – 9 months depending on the rank and type of ship.
After you sign a contract with a shipping company, you will be asked to board the ship from a convenient port on the ship’s sailing route. Most of the times you will take a flight (all expenses are borne by the shipping company) to the concerned port to board the vessel. While signing-off as well, most of the times, you will be taking a flight back to your home country from the sign-off port.
